For this quaint corner lot in a Berkeley neighborhood, I guided the homeowners in selecting plants that would complement their existing greenery (big-leaf philodendron, avocado, camellia, palms, olive). All along the street-facing fence border, we installed multiple Agave ‘Blue Glow’ and Lomandra ‘Platinum Beauty’ plants for textural interest and to enhance the succulents already there. Within the fence, we filled large swaths of space with airy plantings of Leptospermum ‘Dark Shadows’ to create privacy plus a selection of large boulders and plantings of Acacia ‘Cousin Itt’ to inject a sense of zen into the space.
